NS.1.1.EIncorporate green infrastructure and Low Impact Development (LID) best practices in public open spaces and other municipal properties to reduce aquifer contamination risk from stormwater runoff, development activities, and non point source pollution.

Stormwater runoff carries pollutants that can threaten Plymouth’s sole source aquifer and contribute to water quality problems. This action expands the use of green infrastructure and LID best practices—like rain gardens, vegetated swales, permeable surfaces, and infiltration features—across public open spaces and municipal properties. These approaches slow and filter runoff, reduce flooding pressure on drainage systems, and help protect groundwater from contaminants associated with development and nonpoint pollution. Success looks like more municipal sites using LID features, improved stormwater performance, reduced pollutant loading, and stronger aquifer protection outcomes.
